Christmas Hamper

The village certainly knows how to look after its senior citizens.

We weren't able to go to the Repas des Anciens a few weeks ago because Bear was in hospital, but today one of the Mayor's deputies turned up with a hamper laden with goodies.

He expressed his wishes for better health, kissed me on both cheeks and went off smiling cheerfully.

So what did the box contain?

Three bottles of wine: red, dry white and sweet white

Foie gras de canard (duck)

Terrine de canard (duck paté)

Terrine de caille (quail paté)

Terrine de Gascogne aux pruneaux (pork paté with prunes)

Gigotine de volaille a la Bordelaise (chicken, mushrooms and bacon cubes in red wine sauce)

Chocolate truffles

Butter biscuits

Two white porcelain mugs

Not bad eh?

It all looks very nice Sandy. Unfortunately around here the council officially "forget" about old people. There is no such thich as a community christmas dinner for the old ones. Our local pub oganised a Christmas Dinner two weeks ago which was fantastic (see the post on my page).

The local "Lions" (Charity organisation), the "Rotary Club" (Charity org for rich people!) and the "Salvation Army" come around collecting money for a Christmas bash for the older generation, but I never get an invite. In fact, I haven't met anyone who has even been to one of these Christmas Dinners!

As to a Christmas parcel from the Mayor and Council? We stand more chance of being invited onto a Carribean Christmas cruise by Richard Branson that that!

If my health holds out, I am coming over to France for a few weeks in 2008 to see my friends and relatives and to look around for a nice place in the department Lot.

I read in the local paper today that the East European immigrants are being given a Christmas Party on Saturday at our local theatre as a "welcome to Britain" gesture by the authorities! You can just imagine how pleased I am to hear that .....

Aww they do that in my village too, it's a very délicate attention.
Tell your daughter to visit www.parship.co.uk, it is based on psychometrics tests and can help her meet lots of lovely, educated men for friendship and/or more (UK version much better than the French one!).
