My cat Sooty is my friend and my Familiar. He is 17 now and I just realised that we have been together for one quarter of my life! (I'm 70, if you are trying to work it out!). He was only 4 weeks old when I had him, because his mother rejected him. He was the runt of the litter, and now he's outlived all his brothers and sisters. His name used to be Pywacket, but everybody said that was a typical witches' cats name and they would shy away from him (silly sods!) so I changed it to Sooty.
